ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR

N-Zone Part 1-6
Marvel

Written by Warren Ellis, illustrated by Adam Kubert with covers by Adam Kubert
Just when I was about to give up on this title Ellis proves himself as writer. In a story updating the Negative Zone and the Annihilus character he manages to right most of the wrongs in his first story. Reed leads the Fantastic Four into the N-Zone now established as a dying alternative universe smaller and older than ours. In part three and four they are contacted by an alien guiding them to a makeshift space station close to an almost dead sun. A member of a ruling class or the Nihil caste this alien has trapped refugees and has welded their spacecrafts to the space station. The alien now sees a chance to escape his dying sun and universe and pursues them back to the Ultimate universe and Las Vegas but is stopped by the Fantastic Four. The changes to the Annihilus character make it closer to Nosferatu than the standard Marvel Universe version. In contrast to the changes to Doctor Doom it actually works out. In fact this story is only troubled by the somewhat flat Adam Kubert and changing inkers or finishes from John Dell assisted by Mark Morales, Larry Stucker, Nelson DeCastro (EUDAEMON, SHADOW REAVERS) to Scott Hanna on the last two issues.
